Darla

Darla Solid Chocolate Brown with light nose and points 8 year old molly Foxtrotter x Gaited Jack 14.1 hand, slick stocky Kid-friendly, trustworthy confidence-builder with both “autistic kid” and “grandma trail rider” experience. Many gaited enthusiasts know the struggle of riding their fast-walking, gaited mounts alongside their friends regular horses and mules - the reining in, the holding back, the circling to the back because Mr Pokey QH doesn’t walk as fast as your ride. Well, meet Darla - the solution to all your problems. Darla’s a stocky, cute 14.1 hand, cocoa brown 8 year old molly out of a quality Foxtrotter mare and a gaited jack. She has an appealing expression, with shapely ears, soft eye and a pretty head. At 14.1 hands, she’s the perfect size-- stocky enough adults can ride her, but still small enough that kids and petite folks will still feel comfortable. You don’t get much more solid than Darla! She has a great mind, and uses it to deliver the kind of ride that gets the old folks and nervous riders out of their rocking chairs and back into the saddle. She is kind, consistent, and very mellow without ever crossing the line into “pokey.” Darla’s fun, easy to ride foxtrot-style gait will move out to the comfort-level of her rider, whether they’re 6 or 66. She’ll walk along with the stock horses, or keep up with the big-moving gaited horses and mules...AND she will stop and stand still if you need her to. Even though she’s not the kind to waste energy on foolishness, she’s far from lazy-- she does like to go, but only when you ASK. She’s more of a comfy touring sedan than a sports car. This makes her an uncomplicated, push-button glide ride, even for someone who’s just learning the joys of going gaited! Darla stands perfectly for mounting, whether you need a step-stool or not. On the trail and out and about, she’s a solid citizen. Nothing upsets her, and we’ve been exposing her to everything that’s out there to see if there’s anything she needs to see more of. Dogs, ATV’s, noisy tractors, tarps, traffic and extreme trail obstacles-- she doesn’t mind. She’ll climb up, over or through anything you point her at… but she especially loves water crossings. And she doesn’t need you to be confident-- she has plenty confidence of her own and is happy to share some if you need it. She always has an ear back, listening for her rider. On the ground, Darla has a lot to love about her. She’s sweet and affectionate without being pushy, and is excellent for the farrier or anyone who wants to catch and handle her. Although she likes everybody, we find that kids and women seem especially drawn to her. Many mules are “relationship” mules, and really crave the close bond with one particular person. Our hunch is that Darla is going to do well in a family environment, and has a heart big enough to embrace several people - not just one. She’s the kind of mule that everyone’s looking for, and never re-sells once they own. If you need a safe confidence builder and enjoy being to ride with a wide variety of other horses and mules, Darla could be the one you’ve been waiting for!
