Wylie

4
RIght now, he’s solid in all the basics of trails and country road riding. He’s used to big farm equipment, barking dogs, livestock, delivery trucks and all the things you’d expect to see on a working farm or busy rural road. Wylie’s also surefooted on rough trails and other challenging terrain - and he also trusts his judgment and footing, and he’s already relaxed and confident in all his gaits. At this point, he’s getting some practice as a ride leader in bigger groups, working on lightness in his backup, and improving his neck rein on the trail.

Wylie’s dam is a surefooted, stocky, sensible foxtrotter mare, and she passed on all of her very best features to her handsome long-eared son. Wylie keeps his happy, smooth, head-nodding gait on a relaxed, loose rein - even uphill! While not being large or bulky, he’s close-coupled and built to carry a heavier rider without needing a bunch of height - we consider this to be “the sweet spot” that will please all but the shortest or tallest riders. All kidding aside, though - it doesn’t matter. Wylie is practically the poster child for our “Pick Me Up” trick - he’ll side pass over to anything you want to stand on, to get into the saddle.

Wylie is a friendly, uncomplicated mule who is also a quick study and completely trusts his rider - all of which makes him a great candidate for a rider with some experience of their own to take home and finish out the way they want. If you have the situation where you can offer him the kind of consistent riding and life experiences this mule would benefit from to be considered truly “finished,” this could be your opportunity to own one of our best at the fraction of the cost of one that has completed their training with us.

On the ground, Wylie’s everything you’d expect from one of our home bred mounts - he’s easy to catch, middle of the pecking order with other mules and mannerly and easy to be around. Clip, bathe, lead, load, catch, tack, shoe… the whole 9 yards. He’s had the benefit of a lot of purposeful handling since the day he was born, so humans are his friends and trusted allies. In fact, he takes it just a step further - he’s genuinely friendly. We suspect Wylie might end up as a great “relationship mule” or a family mule when the right person turns up
