Hyjacker

While Hijacker’s a safe, kind, confidence builder for beginning riders, over the long haul, his level of training might be best appreciated by a rider with enough experience to utilize his more advanced skills. Mules with his level of versatility don’t come around every day.  If you’ve been looking for ONE mule that can do a lot of things, or you just want a really uncomplicated gaited mule for camping, hunting and trail riding, you might want to come on out and meet him. 1

Now what do you think Grandpa thinks this mule is worth?
These days, it’s not the military who loves a supremely versatile mule - it’s just regular folk who have a lot going on! If you want ONE mule who will be able to keep up with a wide array of your outdoorsy exploits, you really need to meet this guy! Not only is he broke the best for riding - light and responsive under saddle, but his resume of other skills is impressive. Want to till a garden? He’s pulled a plow? Go for a buggy ride? He’s broke to cart! Hijacker loves the water - he’ll pack you up to the best fishing holes, carry your poles and bait, cross just about any creek you’d ever want, and even keep you company while you drown some worms. Wanna go hunting? Hijacker’s been packing in the mountains of Colorado - ask Bob about that trip - beautiful country and rugged trails. A good place to have a GREAT mule.

4With all this versatility to brag about, it’s easy to overlook something that’s actually kind of important - his character. Hijacker genuinely *likes* people, so he’s easy to catch. He’s friendly and playful, looking to interact with people and make them happy.  His eagerness to please makes for a very biddable and trainable mule that gets along with just about everyone. Because he’s willing to try so hard, he’s sensitive to cues in the best sort of way - his neckrein is great, and so’s his sidepassing! Like all our mules, he’s willing and able to help you get into the saddle, either by parking out, or performing the “pick me up” where he’ll sidepass over to you on a stump or mounting block so you can mount from there. Once you’re up, he’s patient - it’s your decision on when to go, not his, and he knows it.  Be sure to tell him he’s a good boy, though. He is quite responsive to praise.

7 If you like a real Western Pleasure feel to your mount, with a smooth, ground covering flat walk and your choice between a sweet little dog trot and a gaited running walk, you’ll definitely appreciate Hijacker’s gaits. Also, if you’ve got a need for a little bit of speed, you’re in luck- because his canter is a lot like riding a rocking chair! He covers the ground nice and easy and doesn’t get all fired up - (which is great for those of us who don’t bounce so good anymore!) Because he’s “been there, done that, kind of guy” Hijacker’s got all the down and dirty trail skills for dealing with any kind of wilderness terrain you might care to tackle, including surprise wildlife popping out. Water crossings are a specialty - he’s so very careful, but you can tell he’s having fun. He’s also well used to busy country road traffic, and has seen all kinds of farm equipment, delivery trucks, ATV’s and all that. If something does surprise him, he stops, and looks. Not much upsets him, and it shows. If you’re short on confidence, you can borrow some of his until you get your own back.

9 In the pen, Hijacker is usually around the middle of the pecking order and makes friends easily. This easy going attitude carries over into work - he doesn’t get upset when he’s crowded.  He’ll ride out alone or in a group, first, middle or last.  As far as humans go, he likes them all, but he does seem to like the ladies just a little more than the men. Because he’s so sociable and interactive, we suspect he might be a “relationship mule” and enjoy having a person of his very own.
